In a bid to improve operations and customers’ experience, Ports & Cargo Handling Services Limited has acquired 75 different plants and equipment.
These equipment and plants include container stackers, forklifts, fixed and semi-auto container spreaders, cranes and terminal tractors of KALMAR, HYSTER, CATRACOM, STINIS, NISSAN and LIEBHAR brands, among others.
Also, brand new 21 heavy-duty trucks were also purchased for cargo haulage in order to ensure cargo security and to facilitate the speed of goods delivery from the terminal.
According to Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, Managing Director, SIFAX Group, the holding company of Ports & Cargo Handling Services Limited, the acquisition is meant to achieve effective terminal operations.
Since taking over the running of the Terminal C at the Tin Can Island Port, Apapa, Lagos in May 2006, the company has invested massively in provision of infrastructure and handling equipment. With computerized working environment that includes container tracking and management, as well as, ship planning systems, the company has readily redefined shipping and terminal operations in Nigeria.
It would be recalled that Ports and Cargo, some months ago made history by acquiring and commissioning for use two LHM (400) cranes, with exceptional container handling capabilities, first of its kind in Nigeria. The newly acquired equipment at the Ports and Cargo Handling Services terminal are the latest models.
