PORT OPERATIONS
The terminals and port facilities being operated by Ports and Cargo Handling Services are tailored to global standards. It meets the shipping requirements of the best ports in any part of the world. In our modern port facilities, we handle multi purpose shipments ranging from general cargo to bulk, RORO and containerized cargo. We have set records in the handling of steel products, rice and other general cargo, with the ability of handling three ships simultaneously.
We also have an infrastructure set up for the forwarding of landed goods from vessels 24 hours a day.
Port Facilities
Ports and Cargo Handling Services Limited has over 750m of quay deck apron which includes berths 6, 7a, 7b and 8 of the Tin Can Island Port facilities. Our berths are equipped to handle containers and general cargo.
The port's dry-bulk facilities have flexible operational arrangements, with some fully dedicated to particular users and others sharing wharf facilities with non-bulk trades. This arrangement is structured for operational efficiency.
The terminal has a large open space for container stacking and storage of general cargo. We employ computerized stacking scheme for easy location and delivery of cargoes.
Transit Shed
Sheds 4 and 5: They are equipped with 25 tonnes SWL overhead crane.
Craneage
The terminal owns and operates various sizes and configurations of SWL and other cranes. There are also recently acquired LHM (400) LIEBHAR cranes with exceptional container handling capabilities, first of its kind in Nigeria.
Forklifts
A range of forklifts (with similar SWL to the cranes) are owned and operated by the port.
Workshop
The terminal operates a well equipped mechanical workshop with modern facilities for routine servicing of machinery. It is backed with dedicated and competent engineers and technicians with relevant experience.
